If you could give your son the greatest gift of all, what would it be? It wouldn't be money or anything money can buy. Whether you are rich or poor, the greatest gift is within your power because that gift helps a boy become a person with a good feeling about himself and a genuine concern for others.
As a parent or guardian, you want your son to grow up to be self-reliant and dependable - a person of worth, a caring individual.
In a society where your son is often taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting teaches him to do his best and to be helpful to others.
The Bear den will involve your son in a group of boys his own age where he can earn status and recognition. There he will also gain a sense of personal achievement from the new skills he learns.
A boy who is in the third grade and/or 9 years old would enter Cub Scouts as a Bear Scout. If your son joined Cub Scouts as a Bear Scout, he must earn the Bobcat badge before receiving any other award or rank. After your Cub Scout has earned his Bobcat badge, he can start along the Bear trail. This is a big adventure for a boy, one the Boy Scouts of America hopes all boys will complete.
A Cub Scout who is in the third grade works to complete 12 of the following 24 Achievements to earn his Bear Badge:
1. Ways We Worship 13. Saving Well, Spending Well
2. Emblems of Faith 14. Ride Right
3. What Makes America Special? 15. Games, Games, Games!
4. Tall Tales 16. Building Muscles
5. Sharing Your World with Wildlife 17. Information Please
6. Take Care of Your Planet 18. Jot it Down
7. Law Enforcement is a Big Job 19. Shavings and Chips
8. The Past is Exciting and Important 20. Sawdust and Nails

10. Family Fun 22. Typing it All Up
11. Be Ready 23. Sports, Sports, Sports!

If your son is ready for adventure, we would be pleased to have him as a member of Pack 46!
